Click to use “Analyzing the One Euro Coin”, an interactive teaching tool.

An interactive learning game - teaching tool that teaches children how to break down euro coins into smaller denominations.

Players "split" 1 euro or 10 cent coins into smaller units by tapping them repeatedly. Each tap breaks the coin into the next smaller denomination. All actions can be undone, allowing for experimentation and learning through trial and error.

Lesson Plans - Teaching Ideas

Start with analyzing 10 cents. Click on the 10c coin to split it into 5c+5c. Use the undo button to return to 10c and repeat the process until students fully understand the relationship 10c=5c+5c.

Once students are familiar with analyzing 10c, proceed to analyzing 1€ (100c). Explain that we'll follow the same pattern, just with an extra zero: just as 10c splits into 5c+5c, 1€ splits into 50c+50c.

For better understanding, enable help level 1. The grouping lines that appear under the coins help in the visual recognition of the 50c or 5c areas.

Proceed to further analyze the 50c coins. Select the left 50c coin and break it down into 10c+20c+20c. Continue the analysis to 10c+10c+10c+20c and finally to 10c+10c+10c+10c+10c. Repeat the same process with the right 50c coin.

To reinforce the concepts, use laminated or real coins alongside the application. After students are comfortable with the digital representation, repeat the same analyses using only physical coins.

When students fully understand the basic analyses, move on to more complex combinations. Encourage experimentation using the undo button to explore different breakdowns.
