About us

Our mission

Our Mission

Kidmedia Net exists to fill a critical gap in educational technology. We are committed to providing completely free, high-quality educational games and tools specifically designed for children with learning difficulties, special needs, and disabilities. Our mission stems from a simple reality: quality special education tools are often out of reach for many families and schools, and we are here to ensure universal free access.

Our Vision

We aspire to become “the PhET of special education” – a globally recognised, free, research-based platform that transforms how children with special needs learn and grow. Just as PhET revolutionised science education through interactive simulations, we aim to revolutionise special education through carefully crafted, accessible learning experiences.

What We Aim to Achieve

  • Provide universal free access to research-based educational content for all children, regardless of economic circumstances
  • Create learning tools specifically designed for children with motor difficulties, featuring innovative scanning functions and customisable interfaces
  • Bridge the gap between available resources and the real needs of special education teachers and families
  • Develop content that requires minimal verbal communication, making it accessible to children with various communication challenges
  • Ensure all our applications are tested in real classroom environments before publication

Partnership & Funding Model

As a 100% free Open Educational Resources (OER) repository, kidmedia.net does not sell anything and does not accept direct donations. Our goals for sustainability and growth include:
  • Remaining open to collaborations and funding from organizations (such as ministries and EU programs) strictly for the purpose of creating freely available applications
  • Allowing interested parties to contact our team to fund specific projects, with each project transparently displaying its funding source while remaining 100% free
  • Translating our content into multiple languages through partnerships to reach children worldwide
  • Collaborating with parent associations, schools, therapy centres, and educational professionals
  • Developing new content through Erasmus+ programmes and partnerships with international organisations
  • Ensuring our platform remains advertisement-free and child-safe

Long-term Impact

We believe that every child deserves access to quality educational tools, regardless of their learning differences or family’s financial situation. Through our work, we aim to support not just individual children, but entire families and educational communities. Our goal is to demonstrate that educational technology can be both excellent and accessible, driving innovation in special education through open, non-commercial access.

What makes your games suitable for children with special needs?

Our educational games are specifically designed for children with special needs, drawing from over 20 years of classroom experience and research-based methodology. Here’s what sets them apart:

Expert Foundation

Our platform was created by qualified special education teachers Pagratis Pavlidis and Christos Bitsis, who identified the lack of quality materials for children with special needs. Every application reflects decades of hands-on experience working with children who have learning difficulties and disabilities.

Comprehensive Customisation Features

Every interactive application features detailed customisation screens that allow teachers and parents to adapt learning tools to each child’s individual needs. Our philosophy is simple: the game adapts to the child, not the other way around.

Users can modify various game elements including:

  • Level of assistance: Adjustable help and guidance systems
  • Time limits: From timed challenges to infinite time options
  • Difficulty parameters: Mathematical operations, number ranges, and complexity levels
  • Content selection: Choose specific coins, banknotes, products, or learning elements
  • Visual and audio settings: Tailored to individual sensory needs
  • Interaction methods: Multiple ways to engage with the content

Future Commitment: Every application we publish from now on will include comprehensive customisation options, ensuring that learning tools can be precisely tailored to each child’s capabilities and learning style.

Specialised Design Features

  • Minimal verbal communication: Games rely primarily on visual and interactive elements, reducing language barriers
  • Clear visual feedback: Simple, uncluttered interfaces that won’t overwhelm or confuse
  • No advertisements: We maintain a distraction-free environment essential for children with special needs

Accessibility Technologies

  • Scanning functions: Switch-operated applications specifically designed for children with motor difficulties
  • Help levels: Built-in support systems for children with serious learning difficulties
  • Multiple interaction options: Accommodating various physical and cognitive capabilities

Real-World Tested

Every game is tested in actual classrooms with real students before publication, ensuring practical effectiveness rather than theoretical design. This classroom-to-digital approach guarantees that our applications work in real educational settings.

Comprehensive Coverage

Our games address the full spectrum of special educational needs, from children with mild learning difficulties to those with significant disabilities, covering early learning stages from preschool through primary education.

Research-Based Approach (Using Euros Programme)

Our crown jewel “Using Euros” Erasmus+ programme follows established special education principles and methodologies, ensuring that play-based learning supports genuine educational progress for children with diverse learning needs.

What is the Erasmus+ "Using Euros" programme?

The Erasmus+ “Using Euros” programme is a comprehensive educational project funded under Key Action 2 of the Erasmus+ Programme and approved by the Institute for European Programs Management (IDEP) – Lifelong Learning, Cyprus.

  • Recreation of supporting instructional materials, presentations, and visual guides.
  • Extensive beta testing across diverse devices and structured quality assurance.
  • User interface optimization to accommodate varying text lengths and cultural conventions.

Institutional Partnership and Funding Model

To ensure all resources remain 100% free and accessible without commercial barriers, Kidmedia Net does not accept direct donations or crowdfunding. Instead, we expand through institutional cooperation:
  • Partnering with educational authorities, ministries of education, academic institutions, and recognized educational associations from countries interested in localization.
  • Integrating language expansion initiatives into EU funding frameworks, such as Erasmus+ Key Action 2 partnerships.
  • Collaborating with local educational experts to ensure culturally authentic pedagogical adaptation.
  • Transparently crediting funding bodies and partner organizations on each localized project while guaranteeing permanent free access for everyone.

Priority and Implementation

Language additions are scheduled based on formal institutional agreements and secured project partnerships. We are committed to collaborating with educational bodies and organizations that share our dedication to bringing quality, accessible special education resources to their linguistic communities.

Current Multilingual Foundation

The “Using Euros” project is currently available in Greek, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, establishing a robust foundation that demonstrates our dedication to multilingual accessibility. Each existing language version has undergone rigorous testing and validation in real classroom environments.

Special Education Focus

Our materials are particularly effective in special education settings, featuring:
  • Scanning functions for children with motor difficulties.
  • Customizable difficulty levels.
  • Minimal verbal communication requirements.
  • Clear visual feedback.
  • Self-paced learning options.
Our Kidmedia Net applications operate exclusively as a 100% free, non-commercial Open Educational Resources (OER) repository. They are completely free to use, include comprehensive printable materials, and come with detailed usage instructions. We hope to see our materials being used freely in classrooms throughout Europe very soon!

How do the scanning features work?

Scanning features are specialised accessibility tools designed to help children with motor disabilities access our educational applications using only a single switch or button.

What Are Scanning Features?

Scanning features allow children who can only interact by pressing one switch to use educational software. The system automatically highlights different elements on the screen in a cyclical pattern, and users press their switch when the desired element is highlighted to make a selection.

Which Applications Include Scanning?

Eleven of our “Using Euros” applications include scanning functionality, specifically designed to support children with motor difficulties who cannot use traditional mouse or touch interactions:

  • Euro Symbol 01
  • Euro Symbol 02
  • Paying with euros
  • The euro forest
  • Euros in Space
  • Euros in bubbles
  • Click and make the euro coins and notes
  • Euro Train
  • Giant Bee
  • Giving Change in Euros
  • Alien Market

How Does the Technology Work?

The scanning system shows users a set of parameters and automatically scans them cyclically, highlighting each one individually. When a child sees the element they want to select highlighted, they press their switch to make the selection.

  • Automatic highlighting: Elements on the screen are highlighted one by one in a continuous cycle
  • Switch activation: Children press their switch when their desired choice is highlighted
  • Customisable speed: The scanning speed can be adjusted to match each child’s reaction time and abilities
  • Saved preferences: Settings are saved locally on the device, whether using our web browser applications, Windows, Android, or iOS versions, so children don’t need to reconfigure each time

Setting Up Scanning Features

In each of the eleven applications with scanning capability:

  • Users can enable scanning by turning the feature “ON” in the initial screen
  • Scanning speed can be selected and customised
  • Settings are automatically saved across all platforms – web browser, Windows, Android, and iOS versions
  • The scanning function can be turned off at any time from the application’s main screen

Who Benefits from Scanning Features?

Scanning features are particularly beneficial for children with severe physical disabilities, including those with quadriplegia, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and other motor impairments who may only have reliable control of one part of their body.

Technical Compatibility

Our scanning features work with various types of switches, including:

  • Button switches that can be pressed with hands, feet, or head
  • Sip-and-puff switches activated by breathing
  • Eye-blink switches
  • Any adaptive switch that can connect to a computer or tablet

Important note: Scanning features are not available in drag-and-drop applications due to the nature of these interactions requiring continuous movement rather than single selections.

What is your long-term vision for kidmedia.net?

Our long-term vision is ambitious yet achievable: to become “the PhET of special education” – a global, free, research-based platform of interactive learning games and printable materials for children with special needs.

Filling a Critical Gap

There is a critical global shortage of high-quality, freely accessible, and interactive educational resources specifically designed for children with special educational needs and learning difficulties. Kidmedia Net is dedicated to bridging this divide by providing an open, comprehensive digital repository accessible to all educators, parents, and learners without barriers.

Our Comprehensive Vision

We are developing kidmedia.net as a premier Open Educational Resources (OER) platform offering:
  • Free online learning games and educational tools specializing in children with learning difficulties, special needs, and disabilities.
  • Research-based methodology drawn from over 20 years of real classroom practice.
  • Advanced accessibility features, including scanning functions for children with motor difficulties.
  • Comprehensive customization screens allowing teachers and parents to adapt each learning tool to individual needs by modifying assistance levels, time limits, difficulty parameters, and interface options.
  • Multilingual support to serve a diverse international audience.
  • Printable materials and detailed pedagogical instructions for educators and families.

Proven Track Record

Our vision is grounded in two decades of educational excellence, technical expertise, and proven classroom results:
  • Two Decades of Recognition: Multiple honors, including awards from the Municipality of Veria (2007), the Panhellenic Association of Special Educators (2008), and the Greek Ministry of Education for “Excellence and Innovation in Education” (2010).
  • State-Funded Educational Tools: Core programs such as “Magic Brush” and “On the Road with Safety” were funded by the Greek Ministry of Education for free distribution to schools nationwide.
  • International State Adoption: The Ministry of Education of Moldova funded the translation and free distribution of our educational tools for all schools across the country as accessible Open Educational Resources.
  • European Excellence: Our Erasmus+ “Using Euros” project demonstrates our capacity to develop world-class digital learning resources meeting the highest European standards.
  • Multilingual Legacy: Development of comprehensive educational packages adapted into multiple languages, including English, German, Spanish, Arabic, Romanian, Russian, and Slovenian.
  • Classroom-Tested Pedagogy: Continuous evaluation in real-world special education settings ensures maximum practical and instructional effectiveness.

The Path Forward and Partnership Model

The Kidmedia Net platform operates exclusively as a 100% free, non-commercial OER repository. We do not sell products or services, nor do we accept direct donations or crowdfunding. Instead, we realize our vision through structured institutional partnerships and educational grant frameworks, such as the European Union’s Erasmus+ program and collaborations with government ministries.

Interested organizations, ministries, and educational institutions are invited to partner with the Kidmedia Net team to fund specific digital learning projects. Each funded project transparently acknowledges its institutional funding source while remaining completely free and open to everyone worldwide.

Our ambition extends beyond our core team: through these institutional collaborations, we aim to mentor and train emerging educators passionate about special education, transferring our specialized knowledge in designing interactive, accessible educational tools. We are committed to expanding our team and organizational capacity to achieve this global mission.

While establishing a global repository of this scale is a major endeavor, the children, families, and educators who rely on these tools deserve nothing less than our most ambitious dedication.
