Lesson Plans - Teaching Ideas

Start by selecting only 1€ in the parameters. Enable all combinations of addends (2,3,4,5) and explain that answers for euros are given using the red keys on the calculator.

Progress by selecting only 5€, 2€, and 1€. Start with 2 addends and gradually increase to 3 for sums up to 10€. Use the temporary notes function on screen for highlighting when needed.

Repeat the same process with 5c, 2c, and 1c. Explain that answers for cents are given using the blue keys on the calculator.

Use help levels gradually: Start with level 3 where the correct answer appears in faded colors, continue to level 2 with color-coded values (red for euros, blue for cents), then to level 1 with values in black, and finally without help.

Gradually introduce larger amounts (10€, 20€, 50€ and 10c, 20c, 50c) for practice with adding tens. Gradually increase the number of addends from 2 to 5.

The next step is combining selected coins and banknotes (1€, 2€, 5€) simultaneously with similar cent amounts (1, 2, 5 cents), so students learn to combine euros and cents while adding within the first ten.

The next step is combining selected coins and banknotes (10€, 20€, 50€) simultaneously with similar cent amounts (10, 20, 50 cents), so students learn to combine euros and cents while adding with tens.

The ultimate goal is for children to learn additions with all combinations of coins and banknotes with all possible numbers of addends. This application is the best way to teach children mixed numbers and decimals.

Combine use with application 15 (Learning Euros with Pangy) using exactly the same parameters. Initially enable help levels 1 or 2 so students have more time for their answers.

We can always use the laminated coins from printouts 02 and 03 from the "Shopping with Euros" application in combination with using the teaching tool to verify answers.

Always ensure sufficient time for working with the printouts. The generalization of knowledge and the transition from screen to the real world is a very important process in learning.

Children work in pairs using laminated cards from printouts (07, 08 from application 15 (Learning Euros with Pangy) as well as 02 and 03 from the "Shopping with Euros" application). The money cards are shuffled and placed face down. Each student draws the agreed number of cards (two to five), calculates their sum, and places the corresponding number cards below. After verification of correct answers by the teacher, students keep the money cards, with the student who collects the most winning the game.
